SAVILEE CUP CONTEST. Per Press Association. CAMBRIDGE, March 20. l'he Savillc Cup polo tournament in which twenty teams representing Hawke’s Bay, Rangitikei, Tc Awamutu, Matangi, Matamata and Cambridge Clubs are taking part, opened at Cambridge this morning in glorious weath er. The ground is in good condition, but slightly holding after the rain. Results: — First match for Junior Cup —Matangi B (C. Bryant, E. Eergusson, R. llanstead and E. Hinton) 1 lost to Matamata B (J. Elliott, C. Given, L. Moore and F. Klaus) 4. This afternoon’s contest for the Saville Cup will commence, Tc Awamntu playing Cambridge and Hawke’s Bay meeting Matangi. Polo Junior Cup—Matamata A (K. C. Morgan, P. Thirtwall, E. Johnston and P. Maisy) 3 defeated Cambridge B (R. Peake, Ritowncnd, R. Hannon and R. S. Peake) 1.
Cambridge and Matangi in Final
Per Press Association. CAMBRIDGE, Last Night. The SaVlTe Cup matches were commenced this afternoon following two Junior Cup games this morning. Cambridge (R. Nolan, G. Vaspcr, K. Peake and S. Peake) defeated Te Awamutu (Len Kay, Lvail Kay', H. Kay and D. Kay) 5—3. The game was fast and even, but more accurate hitting won the game for Cambridge. Matangi (G. M. Kanstead, G. Peake, E. Townsend and M dc V. Ghitty) defeated Hawke’s Bay (J. Lyons, J. A. Gatenby, N. M. Campbell and E. L. Levin) 9 —5. -Brilliant polo was witnessed thi3 time. Matangi, early assuming control, led 5—3 at half-time. Cambridge meets Matangi in the final on Saturday.-
