Rubber to West Indies
M.C.C. Easily Beaten in Final Test
FAST BOWLERS IN THE ASCENDANCY
United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyrigh t. KINGSTON, March IS.
West Indies won the last Test against Marylebono by an innings and 161 runs. England’s slender chances of forcing a draw and saving the rubber were dashed by Constantine’s and Martindale’s shock tactics.
The batting was feeble throughout, but after lunch it broke down completely. Constantine surprisingly forsook his express deliveries, resorting to medium-paced leg-breaks. At the luncheon adjournment the score was 4 for 76, after which three wickets fell for 12 runs, causing wild enthusiasm among the 5000 onlookers. Martindale, continuing his brilliant spell, quickly accounted for Smith and Fames, the innings lasting IS3 minutes. Hammond alone made a stand, batting 135 minutes. An unusual situation arose when George Grant sprained an ankle and retired. Thus both feaptains were out of action. Scores:— WEST INDIES. First Innings 535 M.C.C. First Innings 271 Second Innings.
