Planes Bomb Rebel Cruiser

General Condylis has taken command in Saloniea and has issued a proclamation appealing to the loyalty of the soldiers.

The Venizelists attempted to seize Samos, but the island garrison was loyal and arrested tho rebel leaders. Three bombing planes returned at G. 45 p.m. and reported two hits on the Averoff’s stern with 2501 b. bombs, causing lire. Four other bombs, apart from range-finders, fell into the sea. The intention was to disable and not to sink the cruiser.

In pursuance of the Government's concerted plans for combined naval and aerial action against the rebel fleet in default of unconditional surrender, two destroyers have left for Crete. The lighthouses on the Macedonian coast have extinguished their lanterns in order to hamper the movements of the mutineers.

The Salonika harbour was closed all night.

All maritime and aerial connections between Italy and Greece have been suspended, and Athenian householders have been ordered to dismantle their wireless aerials.

The authorities seized an armoured car belonging to M. Vonizcios. They arc rounding up all politician suspects, including At. Ladas, a member of M. Venizelos’ Cabinet.

Flamboyant posters order the 1930-32 classes, wno are called to tho colours, to report immediately. The Government reports that all is quiet at Salonika and in eastern Thrace and Macedonia.

Crete Now Virtually Controlled by M. Venizelos

ATHENS, March 4

Crete is now virtually controlled by M. Venizelos whom M. Tsaldaris describes as “Pirates’ hero.” Tho situation is generally graver, though the Government claims it has .regained control of practically the whole of the Macedonia Government’s activities against the rebel fleet which will shortly be increased by the seven remaining local warships, which the insurgents partially disabled before their departure for Crete. Repairs are expected to be completed to-day. M. Tsaldaris says the rebellion will be crushed in such a way that it will be impossible for it to happen again. Venizelos respects the people’s wishes only when his Government is in power.

Rebel Fleet Reported to Have Quitted Crete

Received Tuesday, 7.15 p.m. LONDON, March 5.

The Times’ correspondent states that the Government aeroplanes report that the rebel licet has quitted Crete and is steaming northwards.

Cannon-fire Heard in Yugoslavia Received Tuesday, 7.15 p.m. BELGRADE, March 5. Cannon-lire in Macedonia is being heard iu Yugoslav border towns. Travellers from Greeco report that the rebels have a strong force in Macedonia under General Kammcnos, and tierce lighting continues.
