Tremendous Grape Harvest

Montmartre, the famous night life centre of Paris, lately held its own special thanksgiving services for the abundance of the grape harvest—the best in France for years. A long procession of lorries carrying SO tons of grapes and headed by all the chief officials of the Montmartre district, firemen, and gendarmes, set out from the Place du Tertre for the purpose of taking “a few grapes” to the President of the Republic. By the time the Elysee was reached hundreds of Parisians were marching behind the lorries, and those in charge of the mountains of grapes distributed them generously. .-President Lebrun received from the It-ader of the demonstration a basket of the choicest golden coloured grapes, after which the procession made its way to the Place du Carrousel, where 2000 schoolchildren received a bunch. Later the President received the Queen of the Vineyard and the leaders ,«f the movement which aims at increasing the popularity of the grape as a cheap and healthy article of diet.
