(AVinner trained by M. Williams, Otaki.) Balbus Beats lnveresk Owl’s Gleam was favourite for the Trial Handicap, but she was beaten into fourth place in a very close finish, Tnverosk, Owl’s Gleam, Balbus, Alby, Warvano, King’s Lancer and Darecourt was .the order out from the barrier, and there was little alteration to the straight. Owl’s Gleam had command at the far turn and she led across the (op from lnveresk, Balbus, Alby, Warvanc, Padnos, and King’s Lancer. The order was much the same into tko straight except, that Alby on the outer had moved up ahead of Balbus, who was moving through. lnveresk soon had the measure of Owl's Gleam, and with Balbus shut in bv Alby and Warvane on the outside, it looked as if lnveresk would win. ‘When Owl’s Gleam weakened, however, it. left the opening for Balbus, who finished like a train to beat lnveresk by a nock. Alby was a. head away from the second horse and Owl's Gleam right up fourth, just, ahead of Warvaue. Then came King’s Lancer, Padnos and Conception. Bold Jim in Another Closet Finish Umpire, Sir Spear and Marching Song were sorted out as tbo likely ones in the Highv, eight, but the Awa* puni-trained Bold Jim got the thick end of the purse. The finish' was another close one and Bold Jim won by a neck from Umpire, with Sir Spear only a head further back. Grumpy set t.ho early pace, being followed past the stands by Sir Spear, Bold Jim, Umpire, Count Roussillon, Revision, True Shaft and Marching Song. Revision moved forward rounding the turn and Grumpy led into the back a length ahead of Sir Spear and Bold Jim, with Revision and Umpire next, and a. gap to Count Roussillon at the head of Ihe others. The position was unaltered at Hie far turn and Grumpy and Bold Jim turned for home closely attended by Umpire, with Revision and Sir Spear next. The finish was a good one and Umpire was not loug in throwing out a. challenge (o the leaders. Grumpy weakened and Umpire and Bold Jim drew ahead. Thou Sir Spear put iu a hi to iun, the leading three going past the judge in line. Revision was fourth and Grumpy, Marching Soug and Blacksmith next at intervals. Full Throttle. Goes One Better Full Throttle finished second to. Invoice in the Gillies Handicap' on the tirst. day, and he went, one better in the Highdeu Handicap, winning fairly comfortably from Dialogist and Dollar Bill. Full Throttle was first to break the line, and after a furlong he was leading from AA'a stela ml, Acceptable, Dialogist, Dollar Bill, Secrecy, Jubilee Song and De Trop. Secrecy' drifted early, and at the far turn Acceptable had got through on the fence to displace Full Throttle from the role of pacemaker. Full Throttle was on terms with the leader at the home turn and they showed the way into the .straight followed by Dollar Bill, Dialogist and Jubilee Song. Once in line for the judge Full Throttle took charge, but he had to be kept going to beat Dialogist, the margin between them being a length. Dollar Bill was half a length further back about a length in front of Jubilee Song. Next came De Trop, Secrecy and Wasteland. Another for Toute le Monde Tout le Monde looked none the worse for his Gup race, and he was confidently backed for the President's Handicap. Aga Khan and tins favourite were together at the. home turn, and they fought out the finish. Inside a furlong from, the post it appeared momentarily as if Aga Khan might win, but Tout le Monde finished very- solidly and he was drawing away at the post. Arikira was left, Aga Khan leading past the stands ahead of Catalogue, Miladi, Plateau, Tout leMonde and Copper King. No one ap-'j peared anxious to make the pace,-but Miladi moved forward after two furlongs and she led Into the back- followed by Aga. Khan and Plateau, Tout le Monde and Catalogue. AVith the exception of Arikira, who was tailed off, the field was well bunched at the far turn, and Aga Ivhan was setting the pace with Afiladi. and Tout le Monde in close attendance. Passing the three, Tout le Monde joined Aga Khan, and they turned for home followed by Plateau two lengths away, Afiladi, Catalogue and Copper King. Nothing had a chance of catching the

loaders, and Tout le Aloude won going away by half a length from Aga Khan, with Plateau two lengths further back. Catalogue was fourth, followed by Miladi and Catalogue. Lapel Pays a Price The Feildiug-trained Lapel was at long odds in tho Kelvin Handicap. He drew the fence but was chopped out at the start. The jockey, however, stayed on the fence, and when heads were turned for home Lapel went through fast on the rails ( and had the race won a hundred yards from the post. Blue Boy was favourite and.he looked a winner at the bottom of the straight, but Chaste got on hi? heel's and Blue Boy never regained his balance, finishing out of the picture. Blue Boy set the early pace from Boudoir, Confiscation, Miss Hushabye, Royal Banquet and Chaste. Aliss Hushabye took up the running after a. couple o’ furlongs and she led into the back two lengths ahead of Blue Boy and Confiscation, with Chaste and Royal Banquet next, then Lapel, Dorado, Mercian t.ineen and Arctic King. There was not much alteration into the straight, where Blue Boy, followed by- Chaste, went after the leader. Blue Boy was almost on terms with. Aliss Hushabye when Chaste got. on his heels, and while the mix-up was on Lapel fiew through on the fence to go on and win by n, length from Royal Banquet. Boudoir was third half a length further back, and Chaste was fourth, followed by Arctic King, Confiscation, Miss Hushabye and Bine Boy. Cawbeen Beats Cadland

There was another close finish in the Awapuni Handicap, and Cawbeen won narrowly from Cadland and farmer, the margins being a nose and a neck. Cullus was first away from Body line and Cawbeen, with a gap to Farmer at tile head of tho others. The field was bunched at the far turn where Fanner was checked. Cullus led across the top closely attended by Cawbeen and Bodyline, with Cadland, Farmer aud AVheriko together next. Cullus was still in front when they turned for home, Cawbeen being next followed by AVheriko, .Bodyline, Cadland and Farmer at close intervals. Cullus still had lus head in front.at the distance, but Caxvbeen had his measure. Then Cadland, on the fence, and Farmer, put in their claims, Cadland finishing particularly well to get to within a head .of Cawbeen at the post. Farmer, who did not get too good a run, was only a neck away, a length ahead of CulluS, AVheriko was fifth. Fracas Wins Nicely

The public picked the Himatangi field in the order it finished. Fracas and Atovie Star were .entrusted with over half the ‘-machine and they returned the dividends. La Poupee was first to break tho line, but they had not gone far before Alovic Star took charge to lead out of the straight and into the back, with La I’oupce, Fracas, Nightguard and Eminent following iu that order. Movie Star was well clear at the five, but tho others were closing on him at the far turn, anil at the straight entrance Fracas was a length
