The first women’s tennis Test between Australia and Britain played in Australia was commenced at the Bushcutter’s Bay courts to-day. Australia leads by three rubbers to one. Besults: — Singles. Mrs. Westmacott defeated Miss Dearman, 6—o, 10—S. Miss Bound defeated Miss Bickerton, o—4, o—2. Doubles. Miss Hartigan and Mrs. Westmacott defeated Misses Dearman and Lyle, o—4, 2 —o, B—o.8 —0. The visitors were short of practice, but Miss Bound played superb tennis, repeatedly leaving her opponent standing with brilliant placements. Mrs. Westmacott's heavy over spin, serves and drives confounded Miss Dearman, while Miss Hartigan’s severe forehand was too much for Miss Lyle. The Australian pair caused a surprise by winning the doubles, but their win was hard-earned. Inter-State Tournament Keceivcd Wednesday, 10.55 p.m. SYDNEY, Nov. 21. In the inter-State tennis tournament, New South Wales is leading Victoria by five rubbers to two, including the defeat by Crawford of Ewen, o—-2,0 —-2, 10—8.
