Substantiation for Byrd’s Conclusions
SECOND FLIGHT INTO ANTARCTIC WASTES. United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Monday', 9.15 p.m. LITTLE AMERICA, Nov. 18. The expedition’s biplane, this time in the charge of Harold June, made a second flight into the Antarctic wastes in an effort to find a safe passage for the tractor party' from the cul-de-sac in the crevasses traversing the Slst parallel. After an aerial survey of the area, requiring about six hours, June returned and reported that it was seemingly impossible for the tractors to continue further; in fact, it appeared fortunate that they went as far as they did without misfortune.
The tractors will probably be recalled, but even returning to the base will be difficult.
June'declared that the second flight further substantiated the conclusions that Rear-Admiral Byrd reached, that the continent was divided by a sealevel passage. More unique crevasse formations were found that positively indicate a trans-continental seaway.
