The Saar Situation
GRAVE DIFFICULTIES EMPHASISED. United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. GENEVA, November 16. The economic situation in the Saar is daily becoming worse, says the petition from the Saar Chamber of Commerce, which was submitted at Geneva by Mr G. G. Knox, President of the Saar Governing Comission. The petition emphasises that grave difficulties are being experienced in French and German clearing arrangements and many French firms have refused to grant further credit to Saar customers.
The Governing Commission in an accompanying Note, states that it has made every effort to retain foreign confidence in the Saar and adds that dangerous situations can be averted only if foreign investors can be assured of a stable government in the territory.
German Front Leaders PROCEEDINGS APPLIED FOR AGAINST THEM. SAARBUCKEN, Nov. 16. The Government Committee has asked the Supreme Tribunal to proceed against Jacob Pirre, a German (Roechling) and Pieter Kiefro, also Caasher and Smellze, five German Front leaders, who signed the recent attack on Mr. Knox which was transmitted to the League. The German language papers in the Saar have been ordered to give a front page display to the Commissioner’s rebuttal of the attack.
