Kingsford Smith to-day, harrassed by' autograph-hunters and the multitudes of admirers since he landed a fortnight ago, locked himself in his hotel suite and sent out word by his manager, J. S. W. Stannagc, that his nerves were ragged and he was determined to get some rest.
“Sir Charles must have rest and quiet and, if need be, I’Ll take him away to some remote spot in the hills. Re lias been pestered no end and he’s tired of it all,” Stannagc said.
Whitehead and Nicholl Held Up by Weather GOOD LUCK MESSAGES RECEIVED. Received Sunday, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, Nov. IS. Whitehead and Nicholl, who plan to fly the Tasman in a Puss Moth, are cot likely to leave before Monday, owing to a gale raging in the Tasman, while the weather along the coast ol £!ew South Wales is typical of mid-winter, there having been violent rain squalls during the last 21 hours, with no sign of their abating. Whitehead has received a cable from his mother in New Zealand wishing him luck. Many other similar messages have been received from the Dominion. Regular Air Service Across Tasman PREDICTION BY AUCKLAND CLUB'S SECRETARY. Received Sunday, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, Nov. IS. Mr L. Swan, secretary of the Auckland Aero Club, who arrived by the Maunganui, predicted a regular air service across the Tasman in the near future, the essential requirement, apart from suitable ’planes, being a perfect system of directional radio.
