Armistice Day Services

SCENE AT THE CENOTAPH (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Nov. 12. Crowds attending yesterday’s Armistice services were larger than usual owing to, tho fact of the anniversary falling on a Sunday. The churches were thronged, and both there and in the simple commemoration services at the local shrines in town and country there was evidence that tho sixteen yoars which have passed since the Armistice was signed have not brought forgetfulness, but rather that new thought for the future is being associated with this anniversary. Whitehall was deeply packed with people. Gathered around the Cenotaph were representatives of almost every phase of national life. The King, accompanied by the Prince of Wales, tho Duke of York, and Prince Arthur of Connaught, was supported by Ministers of State, the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, and tho Speaker of the House of Commons, together with the High Commissioners of tho Dominions, the representatives of the defence forces, the merchant navy, and religious denominations.

The Queen, accompanied, by the Duchess of York and other ladies of the Royal Family, watched the ceremony from the window of the Home Office overlooking tho Cenotaph.
