REPORTED INTENTIONS OF STEAMSHIP COMPANY
CONNECTION WITH MAIN TRUNK EXPRESS Per Press Association.
CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. It is reported that the Union Steamship Company intends to apply for a license to operate an air service between Palmerston North and Dunedin.
The report was referred today by telephone to Mr. J. W. Matthewson, general manager of the Union Steamship Company, who refused to affirm or deny it.
It is suggested that the timetable may be arranged to allow passengers on the south-bound Main Trunk express to be picked up at Palmerston North about 7 a.m. and flown to Christchurch and Dunedin before noon. The northern service could also be organised to allow mails posted in Dunedin one day to reach Auckland the following
morning,
