October Wedding

BARBER—QUARRIE A very . picturesque . evening wedding was solemnised on October 3 at the Methodist Church, Shannon, the contracting parties being Vera Lillian, fifth daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Quarric, of Shannon, and Ewen Henry, only son of Mrs and the late Mr H. Barber, of Shannon. The church was prettily decorated by friends of the bride and Miss hi. Ingley (Palmerston North) played the wedding music. The officiating minister was Rev. AY. McDonald, of Poxton, and during the service Mrs S. Morrison (sister; of the bride) sang tho solo, “My Prayer.” The bride, who was escorted by her father, was attired in a beautiful gown of ivory georgette, the bodice fitting closely to tho hip-line, and the skirt with lace godets falling to the feet in a full flare. Her long, beautiful tulle veil was caught with a band of orange blossoms and she carried a sheaf bouquet of white camellias and lilies of the valley. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss' Joyce Quarric (chief) and a niece, Miss Joan Johnson, of Paraparaumu. Tho bridesmaids were prettily attired in frocks of lemon and gold French crepe de chine, with close-ly-fitting bodices, the skirts falling to the feet in a full flare with godets of niching in the sides, front and back. A velvet ribbon was worn at the waistlino and a bow in the centre front. Satin shoes to tone, lemon and goldflowered bandeaux, with bouquets of gold and lemon Iceland poppies, made a charming finish to their ensembles, They also wore gold bracelets, gifts of the bridegroom. The bridegroom was attended by Mr G. Sorenson, of Levin, as best man; Mr H. 0. Barber, of Rangiotu, acting as groomsman. Miss Mavis Hook, niece of the bride, presented the bride with a silver horseshoe as she left the church. A reception was afterwards held in the parish hall, where Mrs Quarric, mother of the bride, received the guests. She wore a charming frock of navy figured maroeain, a hat and coat lo lone, and carried a bouquet of pale, lemon primroses. Mrs Barber, mother of the bridegroom, woro a model frock of black silk chevronettc with coat and hat to match, and carried a bouquet of cherry anemones. Later the happy couple left for a motor tour of the North Island, carrying with them the good wishes of a large circle of friends. Among the guests were Rev. and Mrs McDonald (Foxton), Misses M. and C. Barber, Mr and Mrs Sorenson (Levin), Miss J. Sorenson, Mr and Mrs H. MeEwen (Tiakitahuna), Mr and Mrs 11.
