The unusual happening of a horse contesting a race for which ho was ineligible occurred at Avondale oa Saturday, when Tutor.was a runner in the Maiden Plate. The race was for horses that had not won an advertised flat race of any description at time of starting, ■ and Tutor's win in Ihe Nursery Handicap at Mastcrton last, season rendered him ineligible. Tutor, a three-year-obl gelding by Chief Ruler from Gracious, was purchased at the sale of late Mr V. Riddiford's horses at Trentham last January, for 150 guineas, by Mr W. Scholium, of Auckland, who was under the impression that lie was a maiden.

fcStceton's wire, Suiala, was a brilliant galloper, whose racing career was cut short owing to an injury he received while competing at Trent ham. He raced as a two-year-old in the 1014-15 season, being contemporary with Desert Gold, to whom he finished second in both the Great Northern I'oal Stakes and the I toy a I Stakes. Sul ala won two juvenile handicaps, in one of these carrying 0.3 and running live furlongs in 3.1 at EllerslLe. He was by Elysian I rum Lady Hester, hence a close relation to Master Soult. It is probable that baa he not had his career cut short, Sutala would have reached a high standard as a racehorse.
