Scott and Black Hold the Lead
Darwin Reached in 52 Hours From Mildenhal!
Timor Sea Flown With Port Motor Out of Action
Dutch Machine in Second Place With
Americans Following
Lauding at Darwin 52 hours after leaving Mildenhall, Scott and Black, in a De Havilland Comet, were the first competitors to reach Australia. Over the Timor Sea their port motor seized and they completed the hop with one motor. Repairs wer e at first expected to take some hours, but work on the motor was completed sooner than had been expected and the two Britons were away on the hop to Charleville in the early hours this morning.
Behind Scott and Black, with the Dutch ’plan e in the lead, are .Parmentier and Moll in a Douglas, and Turner and Pangborn, in a Boeing Trans port. Both are several hours behind the British
team and, barring accident, a w:
.n for the Comet seems assured.
