Van Ryn meets Perry and Budge plays. Stoefen or Mako. Miss Josephine Cruickshank defeated Miss James, 6 —o, 6 —4; Mrs Ethel Arnold (Los Angeles) defeated Miss Nuthall, 6 —2, S —6. Budge and Mako defeated Perry and Wilde, 3—6, 6—3, 6—4. Misses Nuthall and James defeated Misses Dorothy Bundy' and Dorothy Robinson, 6 —2, 7—5; Misses Stammers and Jane Sharp (Pasadena) defeated Mrs Carol Bartosh and Miss Dorothy Hunt (both of Los Angelos), 6—3, 6 2; Misses Ryan and Carolyn Babcock (Los Angeles) defeated Miss Graco Wheeler (Santa Monica) and Mrs Arn-old,--6,1 —6, 6 —o, 6—3. Allison and van Ryn entered the finals, defeating Shields and MuelHeisen, 6—4, 6—4, 7—5. 111 the semi-finals of the mixed doubles Kirby and Miss James defeated Menzel and Miss Dorothy Bundy, 6—2, 3—6, 6—4; Wiide and Miss Stammers defeated P-erry and Miss Nuthall, B—6, 7—5. Japanese Tennis Players TOKIO, Sept. 21. Owing to their university studies requiring their attention, tho Japanese tennis players are unable to proceed to Melbouruo to take part in the Centenary tournament.
