GOOD FINISH TO PROFESSIONAL CYCLING EVENT Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last NightHolding the lead practically ail the way from Chcrtsey, D. Aitken (Kaikoura) won the 170-mile Oaniam to Christchurch road race on Saturday. Aitken and five other riders were bunched when the showgrounds were reached, and they fought out a thrilling finish, Aitken winning by two lengths. 11. Watson (scratch) made fastest time, winning the road championship of New Zealand. He finished ninth. Watson, it is announced, will go to Australia to compete in the Centenary Thousand. Goulburn to Sydney NEW RECORD ESTABLISHED Received Sunday, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 23. R. Confoy, of Goulburn, with a handicap of 43min 30sec, won the Goulburn to Sydney amateur road cycling race in sbrs 46min 27 4-osec. C. Staples, of Goulburn, with a handicap of oomin, won the professional race over the same journey in 6irs 36scc. An amateur, C. Winterbottom, starting from scratch, recorded the fastest time and easily shattered the record, covering the distance in shrs 23min, improving the record by a-quarter of an hour.
