Position in Ireland

BANKS AND LOCAL BODIES

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, Sept. 20.' Tho Daily Mail's Dublin correspondent says that the Free State Minister of Public Health is considering a grave situation which has arisen in limerick owing to numerous defaulting ratepayers. The County Council, which has already an overdraft of £SO,OOO, obtained the Government's permission to increase it to £120,000. The bank refused, suggesting that the council should ask the Government for monoy, which is regarded as an ultimatum to the Government. The banks similarly refused increases to other county councils’ overdrafts, despite the fact that they were sanctioned by the Government. It is expected that the authorities will now order further large seizures of defaulting ratepayers' property.
