Record Fields are Carded

Racing Should be Interesting on First=Glass Course

Excellent acceptances have been received for the Toxton Racing Club’s Spring Meeting and as the course is in tip-top order and the scratching pen is not likely to be much in evidence, the club should be in for a particularly successful fixture. There are eight races on the programme with the Carnarvon Gold Cup and Robinson Handicap as the principal events. The first race is timed to start at noon and the concluding one at 4.50 o’clock. The win and place system of betting will be in operation.

Maiden Stakes. Tho opening . event is the Maiden Stakes over six 4 furlongs with.B.s as the weight to bo carried. There arc thirteen acceptors, and although'one or two have shown recent form, the issue appears to be fairly open. The public may elect to give most support to Lord Moutoa and Harvest Moon. Piaki Hurdles

Palm is topweight for the hurdles, and although he lias not sported silk since the Grand National meeting, he should be capable of giving a good account of himself to-day. Euanui lias had plenty of racing and his chances will have to be taken into consideration. Manawatu. lias plenty of pace and may be prominent to-day, but Eed Sun and Galydon failed to make a showing at Wanganui. Tho winner may come from the top half of the card, and Palm may be preferred to Euanut and Manawatu. Motuiti Hack Handicap A big held of 14 has been accepted for the Motuiti Hack Handicap, of six furlongs and Pladie has pride of place with .5. Arena, Courtega, Land Tax, Wasteland, Whetuma and Hybiseus will all have friends, but the betting may point to Courtega, Arena and Hybiseus. Carnarvon Gold Cup.

Eed Manfred is at the head of the weights for the Carnarvon Gold Cup. He has not raced this season bue he has been working well on the Ifoxton track and is reported to be well. Cari'ex is next on the list and his second to Tiger Gain in the Higgle Handicap at Wanganui will be remembered when the chences are being weighed up. Further down the list are Catalogue and Princess Doreen, the latter being the winner of tho Winter Cup, and both of them must be conceded a chance in to-day’s field. Berea tu is next, but lie claims another engagement and may bo reserved for the Eobinson Handicap. Lalla Quex ran a particularly good race at Wanganui and her third to Tiger Gain and Garfex in the Higgle Handicap was not without merit. Lady 'Ronald beat Beryl Latour 'and Catalogue in the principal'handicap at Marton and she should go well to-day. Ida Merling will have friends, but Korokio appears to be the pick, of tho others. Summed up, it looks- as if. Bod Manfred, Garfex and Princess Doreen-have best credentials. Two-year-old Handicap Legatee, winner of the Debutante Stakes at Wanganui, and Symcony, second to Severe in the Juvenile event at Martou, are at the head of the handicap in the two-year-old event and they may bo entrusted with, the bulk of the money. Of the others, Sergia and Nightlass make most appeal. Awaliou Hack Handicap

In tho Awahou Handicap, the three at the head of the card will set a task for tho lighter division, though there is plenty of material to provide a surprise. The betting order may favour the chances of Dorado, Davistock and.. King Thomond, but Leo Colossus, Eaparahara and invercsk may upset the pool. Eobinson Handicap The Eobinson Handicap will be decided over seven furlongs and Eed Manfred has pride of place in the handicaps. He is a. good sort but may start in. the Carnarvon. In his absence it may be Pin Money, Midian and Eercatu that will take the public’s fancy. Moutoa Hack Handicap Tho day’s racing will conclude .with the Moutoa Hack Handicap for which Sanguine King has been sorted out to carry top weight. It is a good field aud there is every prospect of a close finish. The public, however, may go for Hybiseus, Pkeon and ITanunarion, but Whetuma ran well at Wanganui and he may, with a better run, upset the pool to-day.
