Show Sheep Carcases Go Astray
MYSTERY OVER 53 CARCASSES,
Further reference was made at last evening's meeting of the Fcilding A. and P. Association to the fact that 50 Feilding district exhibits in the Meat fat lamb caracsses forming part of tnc Board’s district fat lamb competition had gone astray and so far no satisfactory explanation had been forthcoming. Tho question was raised at last month’s meeting of the association, when a letter was received from Messrs H. Fitter and Sons, London, reporting the absence of 53 carcasses and submitting a schedule giving details showing thc°pens from which the carcasses were missing. This firm stated that the lambs had not arrived, and therefore could not participate in the judging under the Meat Board’s scheme. However, the shipment was covered by insurance and the values had been averaged out in allocating the insurance which had been claimed on the missing carcasses.
At this meeting the association resolved to write to the freezing works handling the sheep, and last evening this firm wrote stating that it had obtained a clearance that the consignment had been received on the boat in Wellington in order, and that they, therefore, were unable to account for the disappearance of the carcasses. Following a discussion it was resolved to write to Messrs Fitter and Sons and to the shipping company concerned, pointing out the facts and requesting a further investigation and report on the consignment of show lambs from Feilding. It was also decided to write to Messrs. Thos. Borthwick. Ltd., thanking them for handling the Feilding district exhibits in the Meat Board’s fat lamb competition.
