Proposed Feilding Show Exhibition Hall

NO ACTION MEANWHILE. ' Tho proposal to erect an exhibition hall to meet the requirements of the home industries section exhibits at the annual show was referred to at last evening’s meeting of tho Feilding A. and P. Association, when tho following report on the subject was received from the executive committee: —‘‘The executive have had a druft plan and rough estimato prepared as to tho probable cost of a hall 90 by 00 feet, and have given very careful attention to tho proposal. It is admitted that such a building is required, but it is estimated that by the time tho hall was built and fitted up with necessary tables, etc., it would cost in tho region of £9OO to £IOOO. This expenditure would put the association back financially to where it was two years ago, when it was severely handicapped by a largo overdraft, which was reduced by the proceeds received from tho art union. Therefore your executivo recommends to the general committee that the whole question of erection of an exhibition hall be referred to the next annual general meeting for further consideration, and no action taken in the meantime.” Supporting the report, Mr 11. S. Smithers said that the homo industries eommitte was satisfied that although a hall was needed the expenditure was not warranted. Mr T. Collins agreed that tho hall proposal was something tho society could not go on with and at the samo time do justice to tho interests o’f its activities. The report was adopted. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Collins for preparing a plan of the proposed hall.

races had to show in the way of fine men. Denmark, too, was a nation that set a good example that one would never be ashamed to follow. Mrs. Harris concluded her address by wishing the Feilding branch a most successful year, saying that by giving of its courage it would assist with the success and prosperity of tho whole Dominion. Mrs. Taylor extended a welcome to Miss Simpson, of Marton (president of the Marton branch), after which Mrs. J. H. Mason (president of tho Makino branch of tho W. 1.) moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. Harris for her speech, and hoped that all would havo the pleasure of hearing her upon a future occasion. Mrs. 11. Beatson seconded the motion and also thanked Mrs. Taylor, remarking that she was at all times particularly sweet and gracious. At intervals throughout the afternoon songs that added greatly to tho pleasuro of the gathering were sung by Mesdames J. V. Curtis, Ainsley (president of the Halcombo branch), Harris and Miss R. McClure. Mrs. J. Gordon Eliott, Miss B. Eliott, Miss McClure and Miss M. McLennan (Halcombe) were the accompanists. A recitation by Miss B. Blamires was also very much appreciated. A delicious afternoon tea was served and the handsome birthday cake was again presented by Mrs. J. G. Cobbe. Tho seven candles surmounting it were lit by -Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Harris was called upon to cut the calcc. Mrs. Taylor remarked that Mrs. Cobbe had again given the birthday cake and that all sympathised -with her in her disability. It was greatly hoped that next year she would attend the party. A beautiful bouquet was given as an expression of love from tho branch to Mrs. Fraser to'carry to Mrs. Prouse. Mrs. Neidercr (of Palmerston North, organiser of tho AY.D.F.U., Wellington Province) spoke briefly and said she would not, be satisfied till every farm woman in New Zealand had joined up. She hoped that all members would keep high ideals and follow the wonderful and courageous example set by tho pioneers who were notable for their love and service. Mrs. Neidercr congratulated the local branch on tho Vine work it had accomplished during the seven years it had been in existence and hoped its good work would continue. Mrs. Taylor asked all to express their appreciation of the very hard work done by the hon. secretary, Mrs. H. Foster, throughout the year. (Applause.) Mrs. Foster returned thanks, following which she reported that eleven housekeepers had been supplied by the branch this year, four having been employed in the Feilding district. Mr. Column, Farmers’ Union area officer, said that the union was fighting for tho Government to spend the whole of the petrol tax on tho roads and was also urging the Government to reduce taxation on imports from Great Britain. The union, ho said, was successful in maintaining the price of fertilisers at a reasonable rate.

Mrs. Taylor thanked Air. Colman for his interesting and instructive address. Air. J. 11. Alason, president Feilding branch of the union', conveyed to the meeting his very sinccro birthday wishes, and said that it was necessary for both branches to co-operate. He warmly thanked Airs. Harris for her interesting address which showed very high ideals. He was sure charity typified tho work of the division and in Airs. Prouse the branch had as its president one of the truest jewels in tho land. Air. Mason asked all to practice the division creed with the assistance of Airs. Prousc, and he was sure that by doing so-great heights would be reached.

Airs. Alason thanked the branch for its kind invitation to herself and Airs. Petty (secretary Alakino W. 1.) and offered birthday greetings and all good wishes for the future.

A truly enjoyable afternoon terminated with Airs. Taylor, on behalf of tho president, thanking all who had helped with the entertaining of the gathering, those who had arranged the flowers and all others who had assisted with the party. A hearty voto of thanks to the chair was sent by Airs. Prouse.
