Te Arakura
From Our Own Correspondent. Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, medical officer for schools, paid a visit to Te Arakura on Monday, September 10, weighing and measuring the children. This service is much appreciated by parents, many small defects being brought under their notice which, with timely treatment, tends towards a healthier life for the children. Dr. Gunn commented on the modern tendency to neglect the use of the hair brush, and the lack of lustre in tho hair, strongly urging tho children to brush their hair well. The friends of Mr. J. H. Bennett will regret to hear that he is confined to his bed, and join in wishing him a speedy recovery. , Tho Maoris of tho district will be en fete on Saturday when they will celebrate tho reopening of their meeting house which has been thoroughly renovated. Tho work was done by a well organised team of voluntary Maori workers under the supervision of the native carpenters. A hockey match between the local team of Maori girls and a Tokorangl team will be played in tho afternoon and the day will bo concluded with a dance in the meeting house. The Te Arakura hall committee Intend holding their opening dance on October 5, full particulars of which will be advertised. On Wednesday evening two teams of six players representing the Te Arakura Tablo Tennis Club journeyed to Sanson to participate in a friendly matclq with the Sandon teams. At the conclusion of many interesting games Te Arakura proved to be the winners in both sections, the scores being: A, 21 games to 15; B, 27 games to 9. During supper Mr. L. Hansen, on behalf of Te Arakura, thanked the Sandon people for the enjoyable evening and hospitality extended to them. Mr. F. Butler suitably replied.
