Greene: “Why do you never take a holiday?” Wise: “I l'eel that I shouldn't leave my job.” “Why, can't the company do without you?” “Yes, that’s just what I don’t want them to find out.”
“Since my return to England from 'Down under,' six months ago,” writes Mr. Geo. Scattergood in a Liverpool journal devoted to the interests of the tobacco trade, “I find I'm not so keen on smoking as formerly. When in New Zealand my pipe was seldom out of my mouth, and I think the Maoriland tobacco was responsible. It certainly has a charm of its own which 'grows upon one’ as a chum of mine used to say. Grown under the most favourable conditions and manufactured by skilled labour in a large modern factory this tobacco possesses the unique distinction of being almost without. nicotine. The secret is that it is toasted. That expels the nicotine. Think of what it mcan3 to the smoker! The five toasted brands (the only ones produced) are: Eivorhead Gold, (a delicious aromatic), Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Cavendish, Desert Gold (all medium strength), and Cut Plug No. 30 (Bullshcad), a rich,- mellow, fullstrength sort. I don’t know of any tobacco to equal these. Tjiey are not only splendid for the pipe but make ideal cigarettes.”
