P.N. Branch of Music Teachers’ Association
Tho monthly meeting of the Palmerston North Music Teachers’ Association was held at Messrs Collinson and Cunninghams's rooms on Tuesday. There was an excellent attendance and the following programme, arranged by the secretary (Miss Bawlins) was given:—Violin solo, “In a Monastery Garden” (Ketelby), Miss Elfwsda Andrews: pianoforte solo, “Third , Rhapsody” (Dohnanyi), Miss Olivia Stem berg; vocal solo, “Homo Again,” Miss Monica Lynch; pianoforte solo, “Minuet” (Mozart), Miss Gwen Peters; vocal solo, ”Serenade” (Schubert), Mr H. Wilson; elocution, “The Flowers,” Miss Smythe; pianoforte duet, “Grand Valse Ballad,” Shirley and Grayson B'ond; vocal solo, Mrs Plum mer; pianoforte* solo, “Nocturne in E Flat” (Chopin). Miss Morris; vocal solo, “Rose of Tralee,” Miss Molly Diederich; violin solo, “Serenade, Miss Jepson. Miss C. Ashton gave a talk on art iu everyday life. Distinctions were drawn between tho drama of to-day and that of other periods. The speaker stressed the value of drama as a means of expression, especially to those who could claim no musical gut. The art of poetry was another means of expression available to those who desired it. By means of a gramophone ’ illustrations were given of modern poetry, recordings being of John Drinkwater reciting several of his own P Miss Ashton was accorded a vote of thanks by acclamation on tho call' of the president (Mr J. Holmes Runnicies), who also thanked the pertlipir contributions.
