NO. 6 AUTHORITY MEETS
At Palmerston North yesterday af-
ternoon the No. 0 Transport Licensing Authority met, Messrs V. I. Armstrong (chairman) and IS. Jickell being on the Bench. Mr W. Sciiicrning appeared for the Pailway Department, Mr J. O’Shea for the Wellington City Council, Mr H. J. Smith for the Palmerston North City Council, and Mr H. J. Knight for the Road Transport Alliance. -‘ No objection was Taised to the transfer of a license from H. A. Dixon, of Makowhai, to i'. E. Cooksley, for a ? service carried on through the Manawatn, Kangitibei and Wanganui coun-
‘ William A. Davison, of Rongotca (Mr Sinclair) applied for renewal of a license for a service operating from Bulls, this being granted. <* Operating in the Danncvirko County, R. E. Smith sought a renewal and permission to run to Akitio and back as well as into portion of the Woodvilte County. This was agreed to. Permission to include general goods fo Taihapo when benzine was carried was asked for by the Edwards Transit port Service, of Otaki. Mr Kilight pointed out that the con-ditions-would only apply twice month-ly-and general goods would only be . .taken to make up a full load. .Objection was raised by Mr.Schierning on the ground . that it was “the thin end of the wedge.” Another lorry service ran betweeu Wellington and ■ Taihapo and-that carried general goods while the railway provided , adequate facilities, .he. said. . Objections were made by Hie Road Transport Alliance, Mr E. G. Matthews on behaff'of the Pahiatua and Palmerston Nortlr’.Cafriers’ Associations, and . by-the- -Bailway Department’s repre- - serrtntivc. Ms ' Smith, for the , City Council, asked that if the necessary permission- was given, the service be confined to a defined route. Air Opie said the service had been conducted for five months on a temporary license and business was increasing. After hearing lengthy evidence the Authority adjourned the.case to allow - Mr Farr to give evidence in person.
