In the Pacific South-West tennis championships, first round, John Law (Stanford University) defeated Afenael (Czechoslovakia), who could not accustom himself to the hard-surfaced court, 6 —4, 2 —6, 6 —4. Perry (Britain) defeated Ned Wheldon (Los Angeles), 6 —l, 6—2.
