PERSONALITIES
The Governor-General, Lord Biedisloe, will be visiting Palmerston North on October 2, when he will open the annual conference of the New Zealand Grassland Association. Air AA T . S. Fox, of Palmerston North, is at present a hospital inmate in Christchurch.
Mr. AV. G. Shannon is at present in hospital and at yesterday's meeting of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, members decided to forward him a letter wishing him a speedy recovery. Air 14. Stewart, lubricating engineer tor the Shell Company, who has boon stationed in Palmerston North for several years, has been transferred to Auckland, and left for that centre last week. Mrs Stewart will proceed to Auckland in a few weeks’ time.
The announcement that Mr. .T, H. McKelvie, of Carnarvon, was again indisposed, was received with regret at. yesterday's meeting of the Manawatu A. and P. Association when a motion was passed wishing him a speedy recovery.
An expert on the technology of textiles, Dr. Thomas Oliver, who has earned world recognition for his contributions to the science of industry, arrived in Wellington by tho Tainui yesterday from Southampton. Dr. Oliver, who is making his first visit to New Zealand, proposes to undertake a tour of the country to inspect as many as possible of the Dominion’s woollen mills and to learn moro of Now Zealand’s wool production. Ho hopes to renew acquaintance with many former scholars of his college, Scottish Woollen Technical College; which has achieved world.fame in woollen manufacturing circles.—Press Association.
