(Palace, Screening To-day.) In her second First National picture, “The Crash,” Ruth Cliattcrton again has George Brent as her leading man. She herself plays the role of a rising young stockbroker's wife, swept down to ruin in the stock market crash. The drama that ensues is considered her finest • opportunity to display her histrionic talents in the past two years. As his fifth directorial effort for First National Studios within two years, William Dietcrle was awarded the picture, adapted from tho novel, “Children of Pleasure,” by Larry Barratto. Tho direction of a Ruth Ohatterton picture is conceded to bo one of the highest honours on tho lot. The selection of Dietcrle to guide the destinies of the second starring vehicle for Miss Chatterton, following her sensational success in “Tho Rich Are Always With Us,” is a proof of tho deserved recognition this talented director has gained sinco his ability was first demonstrated in “The Last Flight,” tho post-war story starring Richard Barthelmess. “Tho Last Flight” was Dieterlc’s first English talking picture. Prior to that ho had directed a number of foreign language versions. Since his debut in a language other than his native one, Dieterlo has been given some of the most important assignments on the current First National programme, and this was followed by “Jewel Robbery,” co-starring William Powell and Kay Francis, and “Scarlet Dawn,” starring Uouvlas Fairbanks, Jnr., Nancy Carroll
