Colours in Linen

Coloured linens in more artistic designs and many new weaves —somo so fine that they feel almost liko silk —• are taking an important place in the linen cupboard of to-day. Pine needlework, especially hemstitching, is so minutely and beautiful done that there is no need for any other ornamentation. Inset bands in a contrasting colour, inlet with exceedingly line hemstitching, is one fashionable way of embroidering present-day linen, and for some of these sets sheer linen in pale exquisite colours is being used. Half-inch lines of fine whito linen appliqued on the coloured sheets and pillow-cases, or wmto linen appliqued with coloured linen gives a note of contrast. Bands of contrasting tones are also used for wide hem edgings on the turn-over of the top sheets. In direct antithesis are the two kinds of coverlets used during the day. The first are antique embroidered wrappers for hanging, while the second arc fashioned from the delightfully patterned liand-priuted linens of to-day.
