Legatee Beats Severe Severe, bracketed with Entail, was favourite for tho two-year-old event, and Lady Ruler and Legatee were next in demand. The start was not a good one, those near tho rails getting the better of it. Lady Ruler was the first away from Severe and Legatee and Rompalong, Round Up and Sergia were at the head of tho second division. Crossing tho top the, order was Lady Ruler, Severe, Legatee, Round Up and Sergia, and Grateful! was at the head of the others. Lady Ruler piloted the field into tho straight with Sovereand Legatee in close attendance; Sorgia was next, followed by Round Up, Grateful and Nightlass. Once in line for the judge, Severe tackled Lady Rider and had her measure at the distance. Then Legatee came with a brilliant run to snatch tho victory right on tho post, the margin being a head from Severe with Lady Ruler a neck farther away. Grateful was fourth six lengths back, and tho next to finish wene Sergia, Round Up, Nightlass and Rompalong. Illuminate Pays a. Price Illuminate was at long odds for the Hurdles, but ho was in the van all the way and won well from Brigadore, tho favourite. Morrath and Illuminate were first away from Captain Dan, Brigadore and Emotion. Going through the straight, Illuminate was the pacemaker with Morrath, Brigadore, Emotion, Silent Bill, Red Sun, Captain Dan and Esteem following in that order. The leaders bunched going into tho back -with Illuminate out in front and Brigadore and Morrath next ahead of Emotion, Silent Bill, Red Sun and Esteem. Motion went up to second at the five, but lost ground at the next fence, and tho order into the straight was Illuminate, from Brigadore, Emo- . tion, Silent Bill and. Esteem. Once over the last fence Illuminate, though challenged by Brigadore, went, on to - win by half a length, and Emotion ( was two lengths away from Brigadore. ( Silent Bill, who jumped badly a,t the ( last fcuqe, was fourth, followed by Esteem, Red Sun and Ruanui. , Sir Nigel Wins Well

Sir Nigel was well backed for the Trial Handicap, aud he won well, but the unlucky one appeared to be the little-fancied, Bukemanu, who was last away and finished on in third place. Gallant Knight was tho favourite, but after being prominent to the straight lie faded out of the picture. Royal Feast., Amanto and Gallant Knight began best and when they had settled down Gallant Knight was in charge followed by Koval Feast, Dawn Princess, Sir Nigel, Suncc, Ethiop, Amante, Fla.mmarion and Whctuma. Gallant Knight and Koyal Feast led into the straight closely attended by Sir Nigel, with Dawn Princess,'Whctuma, Leo Colossus, Sunee and. Hukcmanu next.. The finish was a good ono and insido [the distance Whctuma actually headed 'Sir Nigel. Voitre had something up his sleeve, and when he shook Sir Nigel up ho drew away and won nicely by a length and a-half. Ilukonianu was third, half a length away from Whetuma, and Royal Feast was fourth, followed by Gallant, Knight, Leo Colossus, Dawn Princess and Ethiop. An inquiry into interference by tho winner was held after the race, but tho jockey’s explanation was accepted, no action being taken. Classic Event to Pin Money The Wanganui Guineas proved to be a good thing for the Woodvillc-trained colt, Pin Aloney, who took charge three furlongs from home and went on to win comfortably from Mother Superior and Burnish. Tho field went away to a flying start, Superior taking up the early running from Evasion, Pin Aloney, brother Superior and Invoresk. Evasion had joined Superior before they swung into ibo back stretch, and Mother Superior asul Pin Money were ■ together next ahead of Burnish. Tho last-named got. a, netback near the five, where Inveresk -was taken to the front to lead from ■ Pin Aloney, Evasion, Superior, Mother Superior.and Burnish at, the far turn. Pin Aloney took charge passing tho three furlongs and he led into the straight just im front of Alother Superior, with Inveresk, Superior and Burnish next. In the run to the judge, Pin Aloney drew away and won decisively by two lengths front. Mother Superior, with Burnish half a neck away from the second 1

horse. Superior was fourth and Inveresk next. Fred Davis, who is tho trainer of Pin Money, has had a great run of successes in the Wanganui Guineas, for which he has prepaned no less than five winners. Last, year he won with Red Manfred, in 1922 with Highland, 191 S with Estlaud, and 1917 with Bjorneborg. Tiger Gain—in a Good Finish The finisli of the Higgie Handicap was a particularly good one and Tiger Gain, who had made the pace for six furlongs, scored brilliantly from Carfex and Lalla Quex. When the tapes went, up Korokio was sideways on to the barrier and was well left. Plateau was squeezed out and Carfex took up the running to lead out of the straight, followed by Tiger Gain, Mercian Prince, Lalla Quex, Passion Fruit, Beryl' Latour, Prolyxo and Spiral. Tiger Gain soon went to tho front, and he led into the back followed by Carfox and Passion Fruit, Lalla Quex, Mercian Prinoe, Prolvxo and Spiral. Lalla Quex went up into second place ahead of Passion Fruit and Carfex at the far turn and Tiger Gain led into the straight followed by Lalla Quex, Mercian Prince, Carfex, Spiral, and Passion Fruit. The finish was a thrilling ono and Tiger Gain stuck to his task to beat tho fast-finishing Carfex by three-quarters of a length and Lalla Quex, Spiral and Passion Fruit followed at head intervals. Next were Prolyxo, Korokio, Mercian Prince and Plateau, Hack Plato to Midian All started in tie Hack Plate, no less thau twenty horses going to the post . The start was a good one, Blackmam taking up tho early running from Purse, Cyclonic, Midian, Rust, Flaxen, Host, Davistock, Silk Sox and Headmistress. Host went to the front rounding the turn and tho leaders into tho back were Host, Purse, Cyclonic, Rust, Blackman and Midian. The field was bunched with many horses well snowed in. Purao and Cyclonic were the pacemakers crossing the top, with Davistock, Hest, King Thomond and Midian next. At tho homo turn Purse, Cyclonic, and Midian wero in line, and they led into tho straight with King Thomond, .Host, Tnitoru, Blackman and Blue Boy following. This issue was in doubt at tho distance but Midian fiuished strongly to beat Cyclonic by a head and King Thomond was only half a length away from the second horse. Headmistress was fourth, followed by Purse, Silk: Sox, Blackman and Davistock. Hereatu Wins Well

Ovapai was favourite for the sprint, ' but ho was beaten into fourth place, ’ arid the winner was the Awapunitrained Rcreatu who was in the van all the way. The start was a perfect one, the field still' beibg in line after half a furlong. Then Rereatu raced to the front ahead of The Tiger, Orapai, Good Hunting and Pomp. Good Hunting closed on the leader but. was checked, The Tiger losing ground. Rereatu, Good Hunting and Pomp were on terms as they swept into the straight, Pomp being next ahead of Tho Tiger. With, tins field bunched, ■the finish promised to bo a close one, but Roreatu drew away and won easily by two lengths from Good Hunting, who stayed on just long enough to beat Pomp by a head. Orapai was fourth. Another for the Hatch Stable The five-furlong ratter with which the meeting concluded was won by Rerepai find it gave Keith Voitre his fourth win during the day and the fifth for the meeting. Collodion being in fourth place ahead of Gold Gleam. Tho finish was a good ono and Rerepai hung on well to boat Courtega by a. neck with Hybiseus a length away third. Pheon was closo . up fourth and Iho next to finish were Hunting Lodge, Canopy, Whyte Melville and Gold Gleam.
