There was an excellent attendance at the September meeting of tho Hukanui Women’s Institute, held last week, when Mrs. W. Watkins presided. A demonstration on tlie making of cretonne articles was given by Mrs. Crewe of Pahiatua. The monthly competition (a rug made from old woollen goods) brought forth a large entry which was judged by the visitors, and was won by Mrs. Guy L'dy, Mis. K. It. Daldy second and Mrs. V. Goodin third. Mrs. Hobbs of the Haniua Women's Institute who was a delegate to the Dominion Conference held recently at Wellington, gave a very interesting report of tlie conference. A vote of thanks was accorded tlie visitors for tlie many and varied ideas expressed. The competition for next month is to be a cushion made from a sugar bag. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. F. Sparkes, .Mrs. W. O. Twentynian and .Miss A. Twentynian.
