From Our Own Correspondent. A dance held by members of tho ladles’ basketball team proved very successful. The date having been altered to Alondaj Instead of later in the week may have accounted for the absence of a numboi of visitors. Music, was supplied by Messrs Knyvett, Perry and Guy. A competition for a dinner was won by Evan Atkinson. Tho dinner was donated by parents of the team. Amongst those present were Mesaames Jamieson, Todd, Anderson, Corlett, Parr, Morgan, Ennis. Gunning, McGill, Williams, Patrick, Misses Towler, Osman, Corlett (2), Guy, Enm.., Anderson, Gilmour, Clapham, Mason, Jamieson. A Monte Carlo dance was non by Miss M. Clapham and C. Jackson and a lucky spot by Miss D. Towler and J. The 6 September meeting of the Women’s Instituto was held on Wednesday afternoon, Mrs. McGill, pho presided, welcoming members and visitors. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to a member who had recently lost her husband. Mrs. McGill and Mrs. Jamieson were appointed delegates to attend the federation conference in Levin next month. Several members wishing to attend it was decided to make arrangements for a bus. It was decided to contribute £1 towards the W.I, club room m Palmerston North. Several members were present at the opening last week. Mrs. s' Schaw reported on the group rally at Linton when Mrs. Barber, of Shannon, was nominated convener for the next group rally. Mrs. Adams (Tokomaiu) gave a talk on planting of shrubs, how to take cuttings and the time to plant. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Voss, Pope and \V. H. Webb. The points competition was for the best knitted child’s singlet in two-ply wool. There were only a few entries but some good examples of knitting weie shown. The winners .were Miss D. Towler 1, Mrs. H. Parr 2, Mrs. A. Burt 8. Mrs. Adams was judge. It was decided to send most of the singlets to the Plunket nurse in Shannon. The next meeting will be held on October o when .there will be a demonstration on floral work. The points competition will be for the best child’s frock. There will also be a competition for a cookery book. The hostesses are to.be Misses Voss and Pope and Mrs. Webb. Mr. arid Mrs. A. A. Webb have left to take up their residence in Levin. The friends of Mrs. J. McNeil will regret to learn that she has had to enter hospital again. Mr. and Airs. Cant intend leaving shortly for Christchurch. Miss J. Rankin, who is in hospital, will soon have recovered sufficiently to return home. Miss B. Corlett Is spending a holiday in Levin. Miss J. Wollerman, Palmerston North, is the guest of her aunt, Airs. J. Schwass.
