Women’s Golf
tjltikangi the venue or new ZEALAND TOURNEY. After an interval of five years tlic womens' golf title of New Zealand is to be contested at Auckland this year, Titirangi. having been chosen as the venue of tho tournament, which opens on September 20, states the Auckland Star. Additional interest will be lent by the playing during the tourney, which lasts until September 28, of the second contest for the Tasman Cup, between New Zealand and Australian teams, and the participation of Misses Oliver Kay and Bessie Gaisford, the two New Zealanders who are returning from a trip abroad, on which their principal mission was participation in the open championship of Britain. The Australian team, which will also play in the championship, has been announced, but the Dominion side is not to bo selected until the qualifying play of the championship. Misses Kay and Gaisford will naturally be the first selections, but the filling of the other two places offers an opportunity to those who have not previously figured in the forefront of women’s golf. It is not likely that. Mrs. 11. Dodgshun or Mrs. J. C. Templar, who accompanied Misses Kay and Gaisford to Australia last season and played in the initial cup contest, will be participating in the championship this year. Though the local players on past performances hardly seem good enough for representative honours, ono of them may prove her claim, with the contest being played on a course familiarity with which is an asset.. The two New Zealanders, who broke their homeward journey to compete in the Australian championships this week, will arrive in Auckland with the Australian visitors only a few days before tho championship commences. The Tasman Cup will bo played on September 26, and comprises foursomes and singles.
