Pedigree Pigs Fall Under Auctioneer’s Hammer

PEAK OP QUOTA RESTRAINS BIDDING. Although tho entries were held by tho judges to constitute probably the best yarding of stud pigs yet seen in New Zealand, bidding was somewhat restrained at yesterday’s pig fair at tho Showgrounds, due, in the opinion of many, to the uncertainty of the quota position. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., were tho auctioneers, and some 2(1 vendors made offerings through their agency. Buyers attended in good numbers from a very wide held, and competition was so stimulated that passings were Jess frequent than might have been expected under current circumstances. Of the breeds presented, Tamworths appeared to enjoy tho greatest popularity, and the best realisation of the sale was for a boar sold at 10.1 guineas for Mr C. W. Davison, Rongotea. It went to Mr J. Eyfe, also of Rongotea. Mr. Fyi'e made another good bid of 111 guineas for a sow from the piggery of Mr 11. V*. Benge, Feilding. Representatives of the Manawatu Pig Breeders’ Association made an inspection prior to the sale, condemning several animals below standard. Details of the transactions are:— Large White.
