Many Entrants in Radio Competition
MAKAWATU CLUB’S AWARDS,
Musical competitions, l lie second of a series conducted by the Manawalu liadio Club (Station 2ZF), were brought to a conclusion this week with the presentation of the prizes by “Aunt Pat.“ The competitions, which have been in progress since May last, have been most enjoyable, well over 100 entrants taking part. There was a large assembly of children at tho studio for tho winding-up of the competition. Tho Mayor (Mr A, E. .Hansford) was present. Ho congratulated Aunt Pat (Miss D. McAlister), Aunt llcno (Mrs P. Murphy), and Undo Jiiu (Mr A. Jamieson) on their interest in tho children and the enterprise shown in promoting tho competitions, which were filling a very useful purpose, The Mayor apologised foi tncabsence of Mr. J. A. Hash, M.P. (patron of the club), who was detained in Wellington by Parliamentary duties, and for Mr. W. A. Waters (president of tho club), who is at present in Australia. Awards were made as -Mpur;— Pianoforte Section —Seniors (11 years and under): Dorothy Heath 1, Tony Pierard 2. Junior (11 years and under): Cora Crocker and Auice Gilbert, equal, 1. Special prize: Aian Hodgcis. Singing Section. — Under 14 years, trained: Max Blake 1, Douglas Hock 2. Under 11 years, untrained: Haney Robertson, Teddy Jamieson, and Athol Gilbert, equal, 1. Under 11 years, untrained: Ronald Tremain 1, Myra Forrest 2. Song with own accompanist: Betty Keating (accompanied by Dorothy Heath) 1. Special prizes: Earl Andrews (aged G years), Donald Gilbert (aged S years). Elocutionary Section. —Under 14 years, trained: Helen Louden and Julia Kendrick, equal, 1. Under 11 years, untrained: Molly Hill and Yvonne Presling, equal, 1. Under 11 years, trained: Doreen Vascy 1, Ronald Tremain 2. Under 11 years, untrained: Kola Ayson I, Rona Potbury 2. Special prizes: Kola Tremain (aged G years), Frank Jenkins (aged G years), John Andrews (aged 5 years), Earl Andrews (aged 7 years). There were, in addition, 27 highly commended awards. Prizes were generously donated by Mrs. Gilbert (Milson), Anice Gilbert, Mrs P. J. Small (Kairanga), Mr and Mrs F. J. Swindell, Mr and Mrs T. Packer, Aunt Rene, Aunt Pat and Mr. J. C. Pegdcn.
