Unemployed Labour On School Grounds
AGITATION FOE. MORE LIBERAL ASSISTANCE Recently the use of relief labour on school grounds was confined to developmental work, and committees throughout the Manawatu district are seeking for a reinstatement of the former conditions. The matter will be discussed at a meeting of the Manawatu and Oroua School Committees’ Association next week, and two remits will bo presented. A remit from the Bain esse committee reads: “That the conditions on which school committees have engaged the services of men under the Unemployment Board shall continue.” And from College Street: "That this committee recommends to the association the advisability of waiting on the Unemployment Board, asking that tile use of No. 5 scheme labour bv school committees bo legalised.”
The Department of Labour (Palmerston North), replying to a communication from the Russell Street School Committee, advised that body last night that definitely no work beyond that approved could be done by relief labour.
