PERSONALITIES

The House of Representatives yesterday granted Mr K. S. Williams, M.P. for Bay of Plenty, twelve days’ leave of absence on account of illness, and Mr P. A. de la Perrellc, M.P. for Awarua, twelve days’ leave of absence owing to sickness.

Mr 0. Reed, of the staff of the Palmerston North branch of the Bank of Now Zealand, has fully recovered from the injuries received in a motor accident near Hastings on Juno 3, and resumed his duties at the bank yesterday.

The death is announced from London of Miss Fanny Davies, the pianist. Miss Davies was born in IS6I in Guernsey, and began to play before she was two. In later years she was constantly in association with great musicians of notable concerts in many countries of Europe.

Mr J. B. Thorp, accountant at the Palmerston North Dianeh of the Union Bank of Australia, Ltd., has been appointed manager of the Marten branch. His successor is Mr E. R. Fames, oi Helcnsvillc. Mr. C. G. Hankin, of the clerical staff of the Palmerston North branch, has received advice of his transfer to Auckland.

Mr. J. W. Redden, who has been appointed to a responsible position in London, yesterday received the congratulations of the Kairanga Dairy Company. His resignation of the secretarial duties to the company was accepted, and Mr. C. Hyde, a member of the staff, was promoted to fill the vacancy.

'The death occurred on Monday of Mr Leonard White, of Langlcydate, TaL Tapu, one of the most successful stud stock breeders of the Dominion. Few exhibitors had more successes in shows than he, especially with Shorthorn cattle and Corriedalc sheep. He spent much money importing the best Shorthorn blood and exported consignments of Shorthorns annually to Sydney Show.
