In view of tho fact that women ,owners were .first and second in the last New Zealand Cup, it is interesting to note that the nominees of four sportswomen appear in tho list for the race next November, They aro Mrs. H. B. Douglas (Rocket), Miss M. C. Wilson (Argentic), Mrs. S. L. Parsons (Jonathan), and Mrs. M. S. Curie (Red Manfred). ON TRENTHAM TRACKS ' ENGAGEMENTS OF HORSES BILLY BOY AND TEE-DEN There was quite an amount of work done at. Trentham yesterday morning (says the Post), but few horses have immediate engagements and little of it was serious. The weather was fine and bright, though the wind was chilly, and the tracks were in good order. The plough was open for (he first time since the autumn, but the trials were done on tho inside grass, which is very fust at present. Trcntham’s only candidate for Marton will bo Redeem, who has done well in her recent work, but may benefit with a race or two in her. She lei.t for the north by float yesterday morning. It is understood that TV. J. Broughton, is to ride her. Redeem will, also be racing at Wanganui, .whero the centre will have four other runners. Two of these, J. W. Lowe’s pair Red Sun and Suuee, are already at Wanganui, having left, on Sunday so a,s to have the benefit of trials with seasoned horses. The other pair, H. .Pritchard’s Purse and Nightlass, will, not go till next Monday. Purse (J. K. Robertson) went well yesterday morning in running half a. iniie in 49-taec, but tho track was very fast. Nightlass (Robertson) just shaded Roseville (L. Harding), with Golden Glow (D, Wilson) two lengths back, over two furlongs down the straight in. 25Isec. Trentham will probably have half a dozen, or more candidates at. the .Foxton meeting tho week after Wanganui. Very few trainers, however, have any intention, of going down to the Marlborough mooting a.t the end of tho month, and the Blenheim people look like finding it very difficult to secure sufficient nominations to run their proposed fixture. An impression prevails that when Billy Boy’s trainer, E. TV. A, Lewis, came north from Christchurch last went on to Auckland, but this ir, not so, as Lewi? is at present at Upper Hutt with. Billy Boy, Verden, and his Va.lkyrian youngster, and it is probable that he will remain there till after, the Wellington meeting next month. So far the jumpers have not been down to the track, as they are being allowed full . opportunity to freshen up after tboir recent racing.
