Sum of £37 Raised For Relief Funds
COMMUNITY STORES SPLENDID EFFORT There was a very pleasant function last evening when members of tho committee of the recent Community Stores’ ball were entertained by the management. The Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Mansford, were present by invitation, and opportunity was taken. by Mr. B. W. Lister, treasurer, to hand over a cheque for £37 Js 7d to the Mayor for tho relief fund, this amount representing tho profits from the ball. Expressing thanks on behalf of the Central Relief Committee, Mr. Mansford stressed tho necessity for this assistance. Tho problem confronting tho world to-day was one of distribution, he remarked, and he was confident that a systom of social credit was the solution, with shorter hours for those employed. This was a possibility nearer than many thought. In the meantime all tho assistance that could be given was gratefully received. Mr. A. Jamieson, who had been secretary of the ball committee, voiced tho appreciation of his colleagues for Mrs. Mansford’s co-operation at tho ball, a toast to tho Mayoress being enthusiastically honoured. An “out size” box of chocolates was handed to Mrs. Mansford for a competition to further augment tho funds. Mrs. Mansford briefly expressed her thanks. Mrs. C. A. Maclde was tho hostess, an apology being tendered on behalf of Mr. Mackie, director, who is indisposed. A very nieo supper was served and dancing was enjoyed for tho remainder of the evening, tlio harmony which prevails in all tho social, activities of the Community Stores, again assuring the success of tho gathering.
