Palmerston Boy Hailed As Violinist of Promise

ALAN LOVEDAY TO APPEAR BEFORE THEIR EXCELLENCIES

On Monday morning Alan Loveday, the six-year-old son of Mr Leslie Loveday, of Palmerston North, -who is considered to be an outstanding violinist, made an. appearance at the I)o Luxe theatre in Wellington, whore ho ' created a very favourable impression. In fact, a critical audioneo was delighted boyond measure with his renderings, wliilo the city Press remarked that, after the first few seconds, lie settled to his work, and, producing a good tone, showed remarkable facility in overcoming the technical difficulties embodied, in .such music as Kroislcr’s

"Schou Rosmarin, Musin’s "Mazurka” and Drigo’s "Blucttc.” In the Mazurka mentioned there occurs a tricky little passage for the springing bow, and pizzicato (for the right hand). The boy played this passage with facility, and without loss of tone or-.rhythm, remarkable in one of such tender yqars. One of the boy’s attributes is a-sense of true pitch. With his back to the pianoforte, ho is able to toll any single note struck on the key of any chord without the slightest hesitation—a rare gift.

Alan Loveday, who was accompan-ied-by Mr F. Jackson, of Palmerston North, is to return with him to AVellington on Friday, when ho will appear at the King’s Theatre during the Vice-Regal screening of the picture, "The Bong of the Plough.” His only violin teacher so far has has been his father, Mr Leslie Loveday, better known to New Zealand as a champion rifle shot. Both father and son must be delighted at the opportunity that has been provided through the good offices of Mr Jackson for the infant protegee to make his bow to their Excellencies.
