Woodville

I'/iom Our Own Correspondent, Bowling Club.

Tho annual meeting of the Woodville Bowling Club held on Thursday evening was well attended by. members and was presided over by the president (Mr. R. H. Henderson.

The president presented tho following report: “Before'dealing with other matters I would like to refer to the loss we sustained by the death of- our late patron, Mr. S, Bolton, on August 21, 1933. Mr. Bolton, as you are all aware, took a great interest in this club, eyen from the inception, and kept tho willing spirit to assist evergreen in anything appertaining to furthering the welfare of tho bowling fraternity. We have also remembrances of Mr. W. Melhuisli who passed away in October last. The official opening of tho green took place on Wednesday, October IS, the weather proving to bo not all it might have been and which at the time made it impossible for me to be in attendance. However, in my unavoidable absence, our worthy vice-president, Mr. R. H. Morgan, in a happy speech, welcomed tho visiting teams from tho surrounding clubs of which 13 were represented. Tho financial statement shows a credit of £l7 and after deducting the only liability leaves us in a similar position to last year. With regard to this 1 think the generosity of our capable superintendent of tho green, Mr. W. H. Nelson, is outstanding, for had it not been that he has given so much of his time and labour in renovating, preparing and keeping an ever watchful eye on tho green, the statement would possibly not disclose a credit balance. Inter-club matches were played with Pahiatua, Eke-, tahuna, Dannevirke, Feilding, Terrace End and Oroua, the latter club annexing the Entwhistle shield in November and retaining it in the March contest. A team consisting of Messrs C. Smith, L. Grinlinton, A. M. Pickering and H. P. Horne was successful in winning the Dixon cup from the Foxton club and retained it against a challenge from Eketahuna but lost it in the next match against Bulls. The Gosling stars were jst to the rmnnev.rke uuu .n . .ovemue _ last but in March a team consisting of iessrs K. Gothard, J. J. Young, G. McLiachlan and H. P. Ilorne issued a chal.enge and brought tho stars hack, win* ,ing by one point. The Allen buttons again created quite, a lot of interest. Messrs K. Gothard, C. Smith, W. McCormack and R. H. Henderson won them from the previous year’s holders and although they played several challenging rinks, were successful in retaining them .or tho rest of the season. 11l competition games, Mr. A. M. Pickering won tlio champion singles with Mr. K. B. Gothard
