Judge Disagrees With Jury’s Verdict

CIVIL ACTION AGAINST ALBERTA PREMIER

A message from Edmonton (Alberta) states that the Supreme Court jury tonight upheld ’the civil action of Vivian Macmillan, a 22-year-old stenographer, and her father, Allan Macmillan, against the Premier (Mr. J. E. Brownlee) of Alborta. The jury awarded Vivian 10,000 dollars and the father 5000 dollars.

Mr. Justice W. O. Ives, presiding, disagreed with the verdict and did not enter judgment. On the motion of defence counsel for a dismissal of tho action, ho reserved decision.

"I strongly disagree witu your verdict," tho Judge told tho jury. Immediately, tho jury was roleased after six days of tho case, during which they listened 'to tho story of Vivian, who charged that tho Premier had improper relations with her over tho thrcc-ycar period from 1930 to 1933, and alleged seduction.
