Allwright a.ro visiting relatives in tho Thames district. Mr. and Mrs. G. Larsen have left on a motor tour of the North Island. Miss Ruth Young, who has been visiting Palmerston North, has returned home. !l™. MacFavland, of New South Wales, who has been visiting relatives in Oamaru, was the guest of her sister, Mrs. C. Marriott, before returning to Au,tr '*' u. Edmontson has returned after visiting friends in Klmbolton. Misses C. and L. Cooksley have returned home after visiting friends m New Plymouth and tho South Taranaki distrie ts. Mrs. F. Cheshain, who has bocn recuperating in Palmerston North after her illness, has now returned to her home in Opui road. , Mr. and Mrs. L. Clark, of Oamaru, have returned home after visiting Mr. and Mrs. C. Marriott, Tane road. Opiki Hall. At a previous public meeting of the Opiki settlers it was decided to g a into ways and means of building a hall. A general committee, consisting of the majority of those present, was elected. A subscription list was opened and Mrs. Akers very generously donated £IOO towards the funds. To date £320 Is fid has been subscribed. A meeting of the general hall committee was held on June ».S. Mr. G Wilde presided in the absence of Mr. G. Allwright. Mr. V. Claridge (sec-retary-treasurer) was associated with him. Prior to this meeting, representa T tlves of tlie committee had made a thorough inspection of tho newly erected Pohangina hall. It was proposed and adopted by the meeting that tho hall in Opiki he erected on similar lines to that at Pohangina with certain modifications. The district is most fortunate in many ways for iu addition to a freehold site and section, Mrs. Akers has donated a piano besides her very generous subscription. This announcement was received with applause. The hall is to be built by free local labour under tho supervision of Mr. Youle. Air. V. Hansen, a qualified electrician, has, also offered his services free of any charge. When the specifications. of the hall duly arrive the secretary was instructed to arrange for a general meeting of settlers, the date of which will be advertised. An executive committee will be elected at this meeting. Humour was provided when suggestions were given for the proposed position of the hall. However, it was finally decided that it is to occupy a central poistion facing the road. A telegram of congratulation in tho substantial subscriptions raised was received from Messrs Allwright and Larsen. General. The first of a series of travel talks during the winter was given by the Rev. Fortheringham, of Shannon, in tho Opiki school on Wednesday evening. Despite inclement weather there was a very good attendance and an interesting time was spent by all. Rev. Fortheringham took his listeners to the lake district and jungles of Nyassaland. At tho conclusion he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Supper was served by the ladies before the gathering dispersed. The next travel talk will bo given on August ).
