The first match in the second round of the sonior competition was played on the local ground last Saturday afternoon when Hula were easily defeated by Oroua Downs by 21 points to nil. Tho visitors showed hotter form and combination throughout the game. From tlio kick off Oroua Downs (yellow) sot a fast pace. Huia were compelled to force on several occasions. Yellows continued, to maintain tile pressure until from a set scrum they secured for Jarvis to get his backs away. The ball passed right along Uie line to the winger who passed infield to Millard who went over for a good try. M. Jloffatt converted.—Oroua Downs o, Huia 0. Following play centred in midfield with the Downs forwards having the better of the rucking play. Then the game swung down to the Huia £5 and from a lino-out yellows secured. Their backs handled, well and L. Jloffatt went over well out. Jf. Jfoffatt's kick failed. Half time sounded with the score standing B—o in favour of the visitors. The change over saw Huias make very determined efforts to make up the leeway. The yellow forwards brought play back to the Huia 25 when Howard snapped up and transferred to Jf. Jloffatt who, altar evading a number of tacklers, passed to .1. Scott who scored an easy try. JI. Jloffatt was successful with tho kick.—Oropa Downs 13, Huia 0. From the kick _on the yellow forwards took play deep into Huia territory, enabling J. Scott to secure and send Jarvis over to score well out. The kick failed. With renewed energy, Huia forwards, led by Algar and Hines, took play deep into yellows w 5-. fence, however, was very sound. Yellow forwards took charge and swept playback for Hammond to score the final try. Tlie kick at goal was successful, the gamo ending Oroua Downs 21, Huia 0. Mr. T. Goodwin was the referee. During the game an unfortunate accident befell “Tiny" Whiteman, who suffered a severe knee injury, necessitating his removal to the hospital by the Free Ambulance.
