PERSONALITIES
Mr. H. Hughes, of Foxton, lias been appointed an officer under the Fisheries Act. Mr. W. C. Barry, Director of the Live Stock Division, Department of Agriculture, is a visitor to Palmerston North. Miss Cowles, of the New Zealand Baptist Mission Station at Brahmanbaria, India, arrives in Palmerston North to-day from Wellington. During the week-end she will be the guest of Rev. and Mrs. C. S. Matthews at the Baptist Manse. Private cable advice was received in Wanganui yesterday from England announcing the death of Mr. Walter Empson, aged 78. He was headmaster of the Wanganui Collegiate School from 1887 till 1908. Mr. Empson was to the Wanganui Collegiate School what Dr. Arnold was to Rugby. Quests at the Hotel Imperial include Mrs M. Mulligan, Mr. Eric Johnston, Mr. F. Dales, Mr. A. Coulter (all of Wellington), Mr. R. Taylor (Christchurch), Mr. W. J. Beckett (Taihape), .Mr. J. Shepherd (Mastcrlon), Mr. 11.
