Obituary
MBS MARY KILSBY • Tho sympathy felt for the Kilsby family of Levin in the death of their mother, which occurred on Wednesday, was impressively Bhown on Thursday by tho largo attendance at tho funeral and by tho many floral tributes and messages of sympathy that have been received. A number of ' cars formed the cortege which left her late residence in Bath street, where the pallbearers were Messrs W., E. and H. Kilsby (son 3), H. W. Kclleher, D. PTodd and A. Patterson (nephew). Before proceeding to the Levin cemetery a service was conducted in the Catholic Church by Father P. Breen, who also officiated at the graveside. At the service a solo, ‘Ave Maria, was rendered by Miss Atky and the “Dead March’- from Saul was played by Mrs L. McDonald. At tho church and cemetery the pall-bearers were Messrs F. Bassett (brother), IC and R. Kilsby (Palmerston North), J. Kilsby, J. Bryant (nephew) and J. Gimblctt. Mrs Kilsby was born at Walsall, Staffordshire, 78 years ago, and came to New Zealand with her parents, Mr and Mrs Thomas Bassett, on tho sailing ship Oliver Lang, when only ten months old. Mr Kilsby with his farnjj*y camo out on tho same ship, and both families' took up land in the Ohariu district, a colso friendship between them being further cemented m 188-1 when Mr George Kilsby married Miss Mary Bassett. In 1896 the young people moved to Koputaroa, where they resided until tho death of Mr Kilsby about eleven years ago, when his widow retired to Levin. There was a family of eight, of whom five sons and one daughter survive. The sons aro Messrs W. E., G. A. T H. J- and S. V. Kilsby, and one daughter, Mrs Kclleher, of Karori. Mrs Kii'sby was held in the highest esteem by all with whom she camo m contact.
