THE SCREEN’S FIRST AERIAL MUSICAL EXTRAVAGANZA Heralded as the most novel as well as the most ambitious musical extravaganza produced for tile talking screen, “Flying Down to Rio” will open at the State theatre at the matinee to-day. It presents an unusual galaxy of singing, dancing and acting stars in Dolores Del Rio, Gene Raymond, Raul Roulien, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, in a show with many notable innovations, and brilliant music by Vincent Youmans. Some of the novelties are the “Orchids in the Moonlight” tango, the intoxicating “Carioca" dance, and the elaborate musical revue, staged by scores of beautiful girls, dancing on a lleet of aeroplanes in full flight over Rio do Janiero. Acclaimed by film critics all over Australasia as the most stupendous musical ever conceived. You might have become a little weary of the countless musical pictures that have showered the screen like a flood; but, for all that, you cannot afford to miss “Fifing Down to Rio.” It is one of the few really original musicals as well as being one of tlie most spectacular and exceptional extravaganzas yet filmed. The story and background are based upon this air-minded and aeroplane age. Most of tlie action, therefore, takes place in a very unusual presentation in aeroplanes and in the clouds. The ballets are huge and lovely, with the music balanced, melodious, and subdued to a normal pitch so that our eardrums aro not pierced as in most musicals. The rhythm of this picture will capture you in a way that no other has done.
