PALMERSTON" NORTH ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY MEETS The Palmerston North branch of the [Wellington Acclimatisation Society held its monthly meeting last evening. Present were: Messrs R. W. Priest (in [the chair), E. G. Matthews, W. E. "Ward, E. E. Ward, J. P. Evans, C. Page, W. Proctor, H. Hosting, W. H. Hosting, K. Thorburn, W. E. Proctor, C. Nielson, H. Seward and P. E. Elsinore (secretary.) Mr. Priest stated that the matter of pollution in the Manawatu river had iboen discussed by him at the meeting of the council, and no relaxation would be made in efforts to have the wrong righted. Tho present time, however, was not altogether favourable for taking remedial steps. To the end of assisting in restocking streams, the Palmerston North Angling Club forwarded a donation of £l/1/-. — Received with thanks. The Wellington Council forwarded the sum of £5 as imprest account for the Palmerston North branch. Tho branch was also asked to collect money if possible for ova purchases. Arrangements were made for a strong 'delegation to attend tho annual meeting of the society in Wellington on Monday. A recommendation will bo mado to [the society to ask tho Feikling branch [to endorse as many as ten licenses, provided mutual reciprocity can bo had between the adjacent branches. Ranger P. W. Willson reported that he had liberated 80 pheasants over the Haurangi foothills (between tho Tauranganui and "Waikora rivers.) Thirty more were released near Levin, 30 at Wainui-OMata. The total, including small quantities elsewhero in the district, was 126. There were 30 more at the game farm nearly ready for release, including ten for tho Palmerston North sub-committee. Ranging had been done over an extensive area. In his report for tho month, Air. T. Andrews stated that he had found several pcoplo in pursuit of game without a license. Air. Alatthews said he thought it was time there was a revision of the system of honorary rangers. Thcro was too much laxity about the issue of the warrants. He thought tho society should compile an up-to-date list of those holding tho warrant. It was decided to ask the council for a general overhaul of the system. It was decided to approach the Alinister for Internal Affairs asking that that Taupo licenses should be available from the Chief Post Office in Palmerston North. This, it was held, would be a great boon to fishermen from this city who were proceeding north in a hurry. < Concern was expressed at the difficulty experienced in obtaining permission to enter certain properties where game had been liberated by the society.
