St. Andrew's Church Ladies' Guild

MONTHLY MEETING HELD Vases of autumn and early spring flowers, berries and leaves, and charm-ingly-grouped bowls of chrysanthemums, helped to bring a bright and picasing atmosphere at St. Andrew’s Memorial Hall, where the monthly meeting of the St. Andrew’s Ladies’ Guild was held yesterday afternoon. Mrs M. Aitchison presided over the good attendance of members, Mrs T. A. Stewart, of Gisborne, being a visitor, and extended a welcome to all those present with the wish that all would enjoy the afternoon.

Apologies for absence had been received on behalf of Mesdamos R. D. Knight, Bowler-Watson, Purvis, Bowden, Linklater, D. Lovelock, IT. Wingate, Mitchell, 11. Voss, E. Govan and Misses Paterson and Sim.

The programme opened by the singing of a hymn, and items were rendered by Miss F. Howley (violin solo), Mrs C. Findlay (song), with Mrs J. K. Patou and Mrs B. F. Barlow accompanists, the artists being warmly applauded and responding to encores. Little Melba Niven delighted her audience with a recitation and responded to an enthusiastic encore. A competition, arranged by Mesdames J. Murray and IIA. Wilson, helped to bring about a congenial atmosphere, and was won by Mrs N. L-iley.

Mrs AitcMson spoke of a proopsed congregational social for adherents of the church to bo held on July C, and stated that it would provide an opportunity for members to grow to know each other better, and also would be a preparation for the welcome to be tendered to the new minister in July. She gave a reminder of the social to bo held by the Bible class girls, and spoke of the annual meeting. A dainty afternoon tea was served, Mesdames A. J. Graham and R. Donaldson acting ns hostesses, with Mesdames W. DufTcli, W. Bambery, A. Wilson, Id. Opio and Misses A. Pettigrew and A. Matthewson as helpers. A vote of thanks proposed to the performers and hostesses of the afternoon by Mrs Aitchison. was carried in the usual way.
