The report that King Alfonso ha* renounced the throne is unconfirmed, but there is no doubt that a consider *- able section of the Monarchists would welcome the step and would support the Infant .Tuan, thus uniting the two groups with forty-three deputies in the Cortes, in addition to which ninetyfive per cent, of the Catholics under Gil Robles arc believed to be Monarchists at heart.
