The death has occurred at Christchurch of Mr Robert Torrance, aged 72, who was prominent in New Zealand bowling nirclcs. He won scvoral Christchurch championships. Guests at the Hotel Imperial include Mr R. G- Atkins (Wellington), Mr Parkes (Auckland), Mr A. J. Andersen and Mrs Anderson (Napier), Mr C. R. Taylor (Auckland).. Miss A. F. Ironside, M.A., who is acting as supervisor of domestic science teaching for the Education Department, is at present visiting Palmerston North Technical School. Miss Ironside was formerly on the staff of the local High School. Passengers by the Niagara, wk.ch L. . Sydney for Auckland yesterday, m elude Sir Philip and Lady Game, Mr G R. The Minister of Finance (Hon. J. G. Coates) arrived at Dunedin last evening from Central Otago, where a brief visit was made to several towns between Queenstown and Dunedin. He will receive deputations to-day and will be the guest of the Manufacturers' Asosciation at luncheon,Press Association.
At the conclusion of the prayer service at the Church of Christ last night the thanks of the church were accorded to Evangelist Hmricksen for his ministry during the last two years. As a token of appreciation he was given a cheque by members of the congregation. Mrs Hinricksen was also made the recipient of a bouquet. To fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr. D. Murray' Keen, Mr. H. N. Burns was elected secrctary-treas-urere of the New Zealand Lawn Tenuis Association at a meeting of the association at Wellington last night. Mr. Burns is well known in tenuis circles, both as an administrator in the sport and as a player. Hiuce August, 1931, he has been honorary secretary of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association, which position he will now relinquish. —Press Association.
Mr Harry Croad, a one-time BnlUmee settler, who of latter years had lived in retirement in Palmerston North, passed away on Wednesday evening. Tho deceased gentleman, who migrated to the Dominion over sixty years ago from tho Isle of Wight, spent some-, time as a farmer in the Wairarapa before proceeding to Ballaiicc. There, in a long residence of 27 years, he broke in a farm from tho bush land. lie retired during the war period to Palmerston North, where he was well known in bowling circles. His wife predeceased him in 1925, and one son, tho late Mr B. K. Croad, of Ballance, died six years ago. The daughters are Mesdames T. W. Jones (Ballance) and L. C. Sutherland (Lawrence, Otago). The sons are Messrs J. C. Croad (Palmerston North), E. 11. Croad (Ballance), 11. H. Croad (Murray Bridge, South Australia). E. A. Croad (Eongotea), W. B. Croad (Mangawliata), E. C. Croad (Tahuna, Morrinsville), I. and N. Croad (Opiki), E. Croad (Opunakc), and C. Croad (Timaru). There are 31 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
